Talia Joy Castellano passed away from cancer peacefully this morning, with her family by her side. She wanted to leave her footprints on the world and she did. Talia was a 13-year old who touched the lives of thousands through social media. Her make up tutorials on YouTube earned her 650,000 subscribers and 175,000 fans on Facebook. In addition to her make up tutorials, she has told the story of her fight with cancer through Vlogs in an insightful and inspiring way.
When she was delivered the news about this new form of cancer, she said, “Life is like a journey. It has a beginning, a middle and an end. And I guess my journey is nearing the end.”. Through it all, she continued to be her spunky, sassy self.
Talia caught the hearts of a variety of news media worldwide. She did many interviews from the BBC and German TV to the Today show and Reader’s Digest. When Talia appeared on The Ellen Show, she was asked how does she keep her spirits up? Her answer; “A little fish once told me, just keep swimming.”
And swim she did. She collaborated with an LA designer Urbana for her own clothing line, “That Bald Chick.”. Talia was featured in the documentary movie “The Truth 365” which advocated more resources for childhood cancer.
In addition to appearing on the Ellen Show, they sent Talia as a correspondent to the "I Heart Radio" concert in Las Vegas where she interviewed Miley Cyrus, Usher, and other celebrities like a pro. Ellen’s sponsor Covergirl made Talia an honorary Covergirl and presented her with a check for $20,000. She appeared in an ad in People magazine for Covergirl.
One of the last set of “footprints” that Talia left, was for her favorite charity, BASE Camp Children's Cancer Foundation. She helped raise over $100,000 in her campaign, Bring Hope Home, for a permanent home for the organization. A room filled with make-up will be dedicated to Talia.
A private service will be held for Talia’s family and close friends. A Celebration of Life for her fans and others she touched will be held at a later date.
